Affordable Green Cleaning Products

Most people want to use environmentally friendly cleaning products instead of those that are loaded full of chemicals, but a lot of times retail items turn out to be more expensive than the “unfriendly” kind. However, there is a way to be able to do your part to keep it green, and still keep the green in your wallet. Keep on reading for just a few suggestions on cheap and safe cleansers you can make at home:

Clean porcelain and tile with baking soda and kosher salt! You can clean up your tile or porcelain beautifully, for a fraction of the cost of those name brand “natural” cleaners. All you need to have on hand is a box of baking soda, a container of kosher salt, and some good old water.

This is simple to make and use. Just take the baking soda and dust it on the areas you will be cleaning. If you have places where the dirt doesn’t seem to want to budge, sprinkle a little kosher salt on it, as well. Then you can take your water soaked sponge and scrub away until the surfaces sparkle.

If you know where to shop, you can get both these items in the economy size for under five dollars. You can also rest assured that using them is safe for the environment, and is also safe to use around any pets or kids who live there, as well. And, another bonus is you won’t run out of cleanser immediately, and have to buy more – like you have to do with so many of those other those retail “green” products.

Non-bleach disinfectant – If you have been spending a lot of money on disinfectants that are bleach-based, then stop immediately! You can make your own “non-bleach” formula by mixing together three table spoons of liquid soap, twenty to thirty drops of tea tree oil, and two cups of water – then putting your solution into a spray bottle until you’re ready to use it. When the time comes, just spray the germy surface, and wipe it down – and kill that bacteria the natural way.

The supplies for this particular cleaner usually won’t cost anymore than ten dollars – and this is for a decent sized amount that will last for awhile. However, unless you already have tea tree oil at home, you will probably need to run to your local vitamin store to pick it up, or you can always order it online ahead of time. Tea tree oil usually costs around seven or eight dollars per bottle, and as the solution is potent, that bottle can last for a while.

De-greaser made with vinegar or lemon juice – Many grease spots are hard to remove, and can even smear and make a worse spot the more you try to scrub at it. However, both vinegar and lemon juice mixed with water make a great solution to this problem. You just mix some water with either one of them, and then store it in a spray bottle for future use.

Then, when you have a tough grease spot that just refuses to go away, just spray your vinegar or lemon juice mixture on it, and let it soak for a minute or two. Then use a stiff brush to scrub at it until that mess is finally gone. This is another earth-friendly home made product that won’t cost you over five dollars to make, and again, you can usually find both items at your local grocery market.

So there you have a few examples of how to make affordable environmentally friendly cleaning products at home. And, you’ve probably also learned that a person can do his part to help preserve the earth, and his funds, at the same time.
